Sifnos is a beautiful mountainous island located in the western part of the group of Greek islands called the Cyclades. It is located between Paros, Serifos and Milos and is a 2 - 3 hours trip by hydrofoil, from Piraeus port, in Athens. Sifnos is quite a verdant island, full of olive trees which create a beautiful scenery along with the glimmering white of the flat roofed sugar cube houses, the turquoise sea and the bright red and fuchsia of the bougainvilleas. The many villages of the island are made of whitewashed cubic houses, narrow stone-paved alleys, snow white chapels and churches, flowered balconies, brightly coloured windows and doors and lovely squares shadowed by olive or huge plane trees. Visitors will find shining picturesque villages on the sloped of the many mountains, close to the sea or proudly standing on the top of a mountainous area, such as Apollonia, Faros, Kamares, Kastro.
The island has wonderful golden sandy or white pebble beaches with emerald or deep blue waters. Some of those beaches offer sun beds and umbrellas rentals while others are completely deserted and unspoiled. Some of the beaches are: Faros beach, Heronissos, Plati Gialos....
How to get there
Sifnos is connected daily by ferries with Piraeus port (5 hours) and hydrofoils (2 hours).
