It is the largest of the Cyclades with its highest mountain peak, Za (Zeus). The Chora is very impressive with its castle built on top of a hill overlooking the harbour. Naxos is a fertile island with a great variety of sceneries. Valleys and little beaches, hills covered in oleanders and mountains rich in black emery and white marble, similar to the one of Carrara in Italy. It is possible to make inland excursions and so visit picturesque little villages as well as Byzantine churches.
How to get there
By airplane from Athens and by ferry or hydrofoil from Pireus and Rafina. In the summer there are also connections with the other Cyclades and with the islands in the North Aegean (Samos and Ikaria) as well as with Crete.
