Pieria became the first seaside town of the region in the 70's becouse of it's nearness to Katerini, the center of the region. By the help of connective road of North Europe over ex-Yugoslavia that trasported a large amount of turist from the countries like Poland, Germany, Austria, Slovenia,Czech Republic, Hungary e Russia, developped fastly.
